FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Firefighting foam concentrates are liquid chemicals that, when mixed with water, form a stable foam that can be used to extinguish fires.Foam concentrates work by forming a barrier between the fuel and oxygen, which prevents the fire from burning. Foam can also cool the fuel and prevent it from evaporating, which can help to prevent reignition.

The different types of firefighting foam concentrates can be classified according to their performance characteristics and the types of fires they are used to extinguish.
Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF): AFFF is a synthetic foam that is effective on a wide range of flammable liquids, including jet fuels, gasoline, and diesel fuel. It forms a thin film on the surface of the burning liquid, which prevents oxygen from reaching the fuel and extinguishes the fire.

Alcohol Resistant AFFF (AR-AFFF): AR-AFFF is a type of AFFF that is specifically designed to extinguish fires involving alcohols. Alcohols can break down AFFF, so AR-AFFF contains special additives that make it more resistant to alcohols.

High expansion foam concentrates produce a large volume of foam from a small amount of concentrate. They are used to extinguish fires in confined spaces, such as aircraft hangars and ship holds.

Hazmat foam is a specialized type of foam that is used to suppress the release of hazardous vapors from spills of hazardous chemicals. It is formulated to be effective on a wide range of chemicals, including acids, bases, and reactive chemicals. Hazmat foam forms a stable blanket over the spill, which prevents the hazardous vapors from escaping into the air.

Class A Foam: Class A foam is a synthetic foam that is specifically designed to extinguish fires involving wood, paper, and other common combustibles. Class A foam lowers the surface tension of water, which allows the water to penetrate deeper into the burning material and extinguish the fire.

Film Forming Fluoroprotein (FFFP): FFFP is a synthetic foam that is similar to AFFF, but it contains a higher concentration of fluorocarbon surfactants. This makes FFFP more effective on polar solvents, which are water-miscible flammable liquids. FFFP is also more resistant to contamination by fuel than AFFF.

Protein Foam: Protein foam is a natural foam that is made from proteins extracted from soybeans, corn, or milk. Protein foam is effective on a wide range of flammable liquids, but it is not as effective as AFFF or FFFP on polar solvents. Protein foam is also more susceptible to contamination by fuel than AFFF or FFFP.

A foam trolley is a portable firefighting device that uses foam to extinguish fires. It typically consists of a tank for storing foam concentrate, Inline Inductor for mixing the foam concentrate with water, and a hose for delivering the foam to the fire.

Foam trolleys are relatively inexpensive and easy to use, making them a good option for businesses and organizations that need a basic firefighting solution. However, they are also limited in their capacity and range, and they may not be suitable for fighting large fires.

Foam trolleys should be inspected and maintained regularly to ensure that they are in safe working condition. This includes checking the tank for leaks, inspecting the pump for wear and tear, and replacing any worn or damaged parts.

A fire trailer pump is a portable firefighting device that uses a diesel engine to power a pump that delivers water to a fire hose. It typically consists of a tank for storing water, a pump, a hose reel, and a control panel.

Fire trailer pumps are more powerful and versatile than foam trolleys, making them a good option for businesses and organizations that need a more robust firefighting solution. However, they are also more expensive and require more maintenance.

Fire trailer pumps should be inspected and maintained regularly to ensure that they are in safe working condition. This includes checking the tank for leaks, inspecting the pump for wear and tear, and replacing any worn or damaged parts.
